Top 3 reasons to practice self-care
What a year it has been for our world, our country and our local community. We know that each one of you has been affected by COVID-19, whether directly or indirectly. We have all had to adapt our daily living routines by practicing social distancing, self-isolation, and/or working from home. It has forced us to change the way we think, to be flexible, and to be more independent. If you have struggled with the changes forced upon you, perhaps its time you invested in some self-care.
Here are my top 3 reasons why practicing self-care is so important:
- Self-care demonstrates that you value yourself.
It’s about prioritising you, before anything else – after all, you can’t pour from an empty cup. We all know the analogy about being on an aeroplane that is about to crash – you always put your own mask on first, in order to help others.
- Self-care decreases anxiety and stress.
Looking after your mental health is so important. When you take care of yourself, you are engaging the parasympathetic nervous system, which allows your body to regenerate, relax and reset, so that you aren’t operating on anxious energy all the time.
- Self-care is a recipe for success.
When you are at your best, you are better able to cope with life’s challenges, setbacks and situations that are out of your control. You only get one life – make yours one that you love.
With restrictions lifted, now is the perfect time to give your mind, body and spirit a little tlc.
